# Planning a Training Programme for Waste Handlers of Health Care Waste Planning a training programme for waste handlers is an essential component of effective health care waste management. Waste handlers are directly involved in the collection, segregation, transportation, storage and sometimes treatment of health care waste. Their work exposes them to infectious materials, sharps injuries, toxic chemicals, pharmaceutical residues and other occupational hazards. Therefore, training must be carefully planned to develop knowledge, practical skills, safe attitudes and appropriate behaviour. A well-designed programme also helps health-care institutions comply with waste management regulations and protect workers, patients, visitors and the environment.
