Primary pollutants are those substances that are emitted directly into the environment from identifiable sources in their original harmful form. They are released through natural processes as well as human activities such as industrial emissions, vehicular exhaust, burning of fossil fuels, and volcanic eruptions. Common examples include carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, and hydrocarbons. These pollutants enter the atmosphere, water, or soil in a form that is already capable of causing harm without undergoing any transformation. Secondary pollutants, on the other hand, are not emitted directly. They are formed in the environment through chemical reactions between primary pollutants and other atmospheric components such as sunlight,
