Sampling frame refers to the complete and accessible list or representation of all the units, individuals, organizations, households, or other elements that constitute the population from which a sample is selected for research. It provides the practical basis for drawing a sample and is therefore an essential component of quantitative research. For example, if a researcher wants to study the job satisfaction of employees in a company, the employee database containing names, employee numbers, departments, and other relevant details can serve as the sampling frame. The sampling frame plays an important role in ensuring that the sample selected for a study adequately represents the target population. A well-prepared sampling frame should be as complete, accurate, current, and free from duplication as possible. If some members of the population are missing, they have no chance of being selected. Similarly, if some units appear more than once, they may have a greater probability of selection. Such problems can create sampling bias and reduce the reliability of research findings.
