Art education is an essential part of holistic education because it develops not only artistic abilities but also imagination, sensitivity, creativity, critical thinking, emotional expression and an appreciation of beauty. It refers to the process of learning and teaching through various forms of art, such as drawing, painting, sculpture, music, dance, drama, craft, photography and other creative practices. In the context of understanding aesthetics, art education helps learners recognize, experience and interpret beauty, form, harmony, expression and meaning in both artworks and everyday life. It therefore connects intellectual learning with emotional, sensory and creative experiences. Art education is broader than simply teaching students how to draw or paint. It involves developing an individual's ability to observe the world carefully, respond to experiences imaginatively and communicate ideas through creative forms. A child who participates in artistic activities learns to notice shapes, colours, lines, textures, sounds, movements and patterns. These experiences gradually develop aesthetic awareness. Aesthetic awareness enables a person to appreciate qualities such as balance, proportion, rhythm, harmony, contrast and unity. Thus, art education becomes an important means of cultivating the capacity to perceive and understand the aesthetic dimensions of life. One of the major objectives of art education is the development of creativity. Creativity involves the ability to generate new ideas, make connections and find original ways of expressing thoughts and feelings. Artistic activities provide learners with opportunities to experiment without always depending on predetermined answers. For example, when children are asked to create a picture from their imagination, they can choose their own colours, forms and compositions. Such freedom encourages independent thinking and confidence. Art education therefore creates an environment in which experimentation, curiosity and originality are valued. Art education also plays an important role in emotional development. Art provides individuals with a language through which emotions can be expressed when verbal communication may be difficult.
