Health education for antenatal mothers is an important responsibility of the nurse because proper knowledge and healthy practices during pregnancy can prevent complications, promote maternal and fetal well-being, and encourage safe motherhood. An antenatal health education programme should be planned according to the needs, educational level, cultural background and health condition of the mothers. The methods used in the community and hospital should be simple, practical, participatory and understandable. In the community, the first step is to assess the educational needs of antenatal mothers. The nurse should identify their existing knowledge, beliefs, practices, common problems, socioeconomic conditions and risk factors. Information can be collected through home visits, interviews, observation, discussions with mothers and consultation with community health workers. Based on the findings, the nurse can plan appropriate health education regarding antenatal care, nutrition, personal hygiene, rest, exercise, immunization, danger signs, preparation for delivery, breastfeeding and newborn care. Individual teaching is one of the most effective methods of health education. The nurse can provide one-to-one education during home visits or antenatal clinic visits. Individual teaching allows the nurse to understand the mother's specific problems and provide information according to her needs. For example, a mother with anemia can be taught about iron-rich foods, iron and folic acid supplementation, medication compliance and prevention of anemia. The nurse should use simple language and encourage the mother to ask questions. Home visits are particularly useful in community health nursing. During a home visit, the nurse can observe the living conditions, family support, food practices and hygiene of the pregnant woman. The nurse can educate the mother and family members about adequate nutrition, sanitation, rest, personal hygiene and preparation for delivery.
