# ESI Act The Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948, is an important social security legislation in India designed to provide medical care and financial protection to employees and their dependants against certain contingencies such as sickness, maternity, employment injury, disablement and death due to employment injury. In the context of organization and management of hospital and health services, the Act has established an organized institutional framework for delivering comprehensive health and social security services to eligible workers. The Employees’ State Insurance Scheme is administered by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), a statutory body under the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
