Mass media refers to the organized means of communication through which information, ideas, opinions, education and entertainment are disseminated to a large and diverse audience. In the context of information sources, mass media is an important secondary source because it collects, processes and communicates information obtained from various primary sources. The major components of mass media are newspapers and periodicals, radio, television, films, news agencies and digital or online media. Newspapers and periodicals constitute an important component of mass media. Newspapers provide current information about politics, economics, education, science, culture, sports and social affairs. Magazines and journals provide more specialized and detailed information on particular subjects. Radio is another important medium, particularly because it can reach people in remote and rural areas. It provides news, interviews, discussions, educational programmes and other forms of information through audio communication.
