Environmental Information System (ENVIS) is an information network established to collect, organize, process, store, retrieve and disseminate information related to the environment. In India, ENVIS functions under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and supports environmental planning, policy formulation, research, education and public awareness. It operates through a network of ENVIS Centres and Resource Partners that specialize in different environmental subjects. The major objective of ENVIS is to provide reliable, relevant and timely environmental information to users. It aims to strengthen environmental information collection and dissemination at national, regional and international levels. Another important objective is to establish a comprehensive information system covering areas such as biodiversity, forests, pollution, climate change, environmental legislation, wildlife, water resources and sustainable development. ENVIS also seeks to facilitate the exchange of information among government departments, research institutions, universities, industries, non-governmental organizations, professionals and the general public. It supports decision-makers by providing scientific and technical information required for environmental planning and management. It also promotes environmental awareness and encourages the use of information technology for efficient information dissemination. ENVIS performs several
