1. What is Rydberg constant? Calculate its value. Why is its experimental value different from the calculated value? 

2. Derive the symbol for the ground state of hydrogen atom.

3 Write the symmetry elements and the point groups of the following:

(i) Water (ii) Ammonia (iii) Benzene

4. Derive the expression

5 The transition from J-0 to J'=1 for HCI takes place at v 21.18 cm^-1. Calculate  the bond length for ¹H³⁵Cl.

6. What is anharmonicity? Draw a diagram for the variation of potential energy with  intermolecular distance for an anharmonic and harmonic oscillator

7. Draw and explain the normal modes of vibration of water molecule.

 

8. Which functional groups are expected to absorb in the 2000-1500 cm^-1 region of IR spectrum? Explain.

9. Discuss the pure rotational spectrum of CO₂ using the suitable diagram

10. Give the selection rules and the schematic diagram of the vibration-rotation Raman (5) spectrum of a diatomic gas.

11. Derive the term symbol for the ground state of LiH.

12. How does solvent polarity affect ?- ?* and  ?- ?*  transitions? Explain. 

13. Give reason for the following:

(a) Mercury (II) iodide is brick red in colour.

(b) The aqueous solution of NiSO, which is pale green turns deep blue on addition of ethylenediamine

14. Answer the following:

(i) What is the role of littron mirror in IR spectrometer?

(ii) Why glass cell cannot be used for IR spectroscopy?

(iii) What are the basic requirements of any container which holds the sample?

(iv) What is the role of Water jacket in Raman Spectrometer?

(v) What is the role of Golay cell in IR spectrometer

15. Draw and explain the NMR spectrum of CH₃CHO. 

16. The hydrogen atoms attached to a double bond are deshielded while in case of alkynes the protons are shielded. Explain. 

17. Draw and explain the important components of an ESR spectrometer. 

18. Discuss the ESR spectrum of ethyl radical.

19. What is simple cleavage? Illustrate with the help of a suitable example.

20. Discuss the expected spectral data for C₆H₅CH₂OH.

1. रिडबर्ग नियतांक क्या होता है? इसका मान परिकलित कीजिए। इसका प्रयोगिक मान परिकलित मान से भिन्न क्यों होता है? (5)

2. हाइड्रोजन परमाणु की मूल अवस्था के लिए पद-प्रतीक व्युत्पन्न कीजिए।

3. निम्नलिखित के लिए सममिति तत्व और बिन्दु समूह लिखिएः 

(i) जल

(ii) अमोनिया

(iii) बेन्ज़ीन

4. समीकरण        को व्युत्पन्न कीजिए। 

5. HCI के लिए J=0 से J'= 1 के लिए संक्रमण = 21.18 cm ^-1 पर होता है। ¹H³⁵CI के लिए आबंध लंबाई परिकलित कीजिए।

6. अप्रसंवादिता क्या होती है? किसी अप्रसंवादी दोलक और आवर्ती दोलक के लिए अंतरा अणुक दूरी के साथ गतिज ऊर्जा परिवर्तन का चित्र बनाइए। 

7. जल के अणु के लिए कम्पन की सामान्य विधाओं को आरेखित कीजिए और उनकी व्याख्या कीजिए। 

8. अवरक्त स्पेक्ट्रम के 2000-1500 cm^-1 क्षेत्र में कौन-से समूह अवशोषण करेंगे? व्याख्या कीजिए।

9. उचित चित्र की सहायता से CO₂ के शुद्ध घूर्णन स्पेक्ट्रम की चर्चा कीजिए। 

10. किसी द्विपरमाणुक गैस के लिए कम्पन-घूर्णन रामन स्पेक्ट्रम का व्यवस्थात्मक चित्र बनाइए और वरण नियम लिखिए। 

11. LiH की मूल अवस्था के लिए पद प्रतीक व्युत्पन्न कीजिए। 

12. विलायक की ध्रुवता  π - π* और n - π*  संक्रमणों को किस प्रकार प्रभावित करती है? व्याख्या कीजिए।

13. निम्नलिखित के लिए कारण बताइए :

(क) मर्करी (II) आयोडाइड का रंग इष्टिका लाल होता है। 

(ख) NiSO₄ के जलीय विलयन का रंग हल्का हरा होता है किन्तु एथिलीन डाइऐमीन मिलाने पर रंग गहरा नीला हो जाता है।

14. निम्नलिखित के उत्तर दीजिएः

(i) अवरक्त स्पेक्ट्रममापी में लिट्रॉन दर्पण की क्या भूमिका है?

(ii) अवरक्त स्पेक्ट्रम में कांच की कोष्ठिका का उपयोग क्यों नहीं किया जा सकता है?

(iii) जिस पात्र में प्रतिदर्श रखा जाता है उसकी क्या आवश्यकताएँ होती हैं?

(iv) रामन स्पेक्ट्रममापी में पानी की जैकेट की क्या भूमिका है?

(v) अवरक्त स्पेक्ट्रममापी में गोले कोष्ठिका की क्या भूमिका है?

15. CH₃CHO के एन.एम.आर. स्पेक्ट्रम को आरेखित कीजिए और उसकी व्याख्या कीजिए।

16. द्वि-आबंध के साथ जुड़े हाइड्रोजन परमाणु अपरिरक्षित होते हैं जबकि ऐल्काइनों के प्रोटॉन परिरक्षित होते हैं। व्याख्या कीजिए।

17. इ.एस.आर. स्पेक्ट्रममापी के महत्वपूर्ण घटकों को आरेखित कीजिए और उनकी व्याख्या कीजिए।
