"نا مہذب آدمیوں کی مجلس میں بھی آپس میں اسی طرح تکرار ہوتی ہے۔ پہلے صاحب سلامت کر کے آپس میں مل بیٹھتے ہیں، پھر دھیمی دھیمی بات چیت شروع ہوتی ہے۔ ایک کوئی بات کہتا ہے، دوسرا بولتا ہے، واہ واہ واہ ہوتی ہے۔ وہ کہتا ہے، "واہ تم کیا جانو"۔ وہ بولتا ہے، "تم کیا جانو"۔ دونوں کی نگاہ بدل جاتی ہے، تیوری چڑھ جاتی ہے، رخ بدل جاتا ہے، آنکھیں ڈراؤنی ہو جاتی ہیں، باچھیں چڑھ جاتی ہیں، لخت نکل پڑتے ہیں، تھوک اڑنے لگتا ہے، باچھوں تک کف بھر آتے ہیں، سانس جلدی چلتا ہے، رگیں تن جاتی ہیں، آنکھ، ناک، بھوں، ہاتھ عجیب عجیب حرکتیں کرنے لگتے ہیں، خفیف خفیف آوازیں نکلنے لگتی ہیں۔ آستین چڑھاتا ہے، کلاہ پھینکا، اس کی گردن اس کے ہاتھ میں اور اس کی داڑھی اس کی مٹھی میں۔ لڑائی ہونے لگتی ہے۔ کسی نے چیخا چبا کر کر تھپڑ مارا تو غراتے ہوئے ایک ادھر چلا گیا اور ایک ادھر اور اگر کوئی بیچ بچاؤ کرنے والا نہ ہو تو کمزور نے لپٹ کر کپڑے جھاڑتے سر سہلاتے اپنی راہ لی۔"

"مشنری اسکول بہت جاری ہوئے اور ان میں مذہبی تعلیم شروع ہوئی۔ سب لوگ کہتے تھے کہ سرکار کی طرف سے ہیں۔ بعض اضلاع میں بہت بڑے بڑے عالی قدر حکام منڈیوں ان اسکولوں میں جاتے تھے اور لوگوں کو اس میں داخل اور شامل ہونے کی ترغیب دیتے تھے۔ امتحان مذہبی کتابوں میں لیا جاتا تھا اور طالب علموں سے جو لڑکے کم عمر ہوتے تھے پوچھا جاتا تھا کہ تمہارا خدا کون، تمہارا نجات دینے والا کون اور وہ عیسائی مذہب کے موافق جواب دیتے تھے، اس پر ان کو انعام ملتا تھا۔ ان سب باتوں سے رعایا کا دل ہمارے گورنمنٹ سے پھرتا جاتا تھا۔ یہاں ایک بڑا اعتراض یہ پیدا ہوتا ہے کہ اگر لوگ اس تعلیم سے ناراض تھے تو اپنے لڑکوں کو کیوں داخل کرتے تھے۔ اس بات کو عدم ناراضی پر خیال کرنا نہیں چاہیے بلکہ یہ ایک بڑی دلیل ہے ہندوستان کے کمال خراب حال اور مفلس اور نہایت تنگ اور تباہ حال ہو جانے پر۔ یہ صرف ہندوستان کی احتیاجی اور مفلسی کا باعث تھا کہ لوگ اس خیال سے کہ ان اسکولوں میں داخل ہو کر ہماری اولاد کو کچھ وجہ معیشت اور روزگار حاصل ہو گی۔ ایسی سخت بات کو جس سے بلاشبہ ان کو دلی رنج اور روحانی غم تھا گوارا کرتے تھے نہ رضامندی سے۔"
