"مروت اور لحاظ مرزا کی طبیعت میں بدرجہ غایت تھا۔ باوجود یہ کہ اخیر عمر میں وہ اشعار کی اصلاح دینے سے گھبرانے لگے تھے۔ بایں ہمہ کبھی کسی کا قصیدہ یا غزل بغیر کسی اصلاح کے واپس نہ کرتے تھے۔ ایک صاحب کو لکھتے ہیں۔ "جہاں تک ہو سکا احباب کی خدمت بجا لایا۔ اوراق اشعار لیٹے لیٹے دیکھتا تھا اور اصلاح دیتا تھا۔ اب نہ آنکھ سے اچھی طرح سوجھے نہ ہاتھ سے اچھی طرح لکھا جائے۔ کہتے ہیں کہ شاہ شرف بو علی قلندر کو بہ سبب کبر سن کے خدائے فرض اور پیغمبر نے سنت معاف کر دی تھی۔ میں متوقع ہوں کہ میرے دوست بھی خدمت اصلاح اشعار سے مجھے معاف کریں۔ خطوط شوقیہ کا جواب جس صورت سے ہو سکے گا، لکھ دیا کروں گا۔" باوجود اس کے بھی لوگ مرزا کو برابر ستاتے رہتے تھے۔ ایک دفعہ کہیں مرزا تفتہ نے یہ لکھ دیا تھا کہ آپ نے بہ سبب ذوقِ سخن کے اصلاح اشعار منظور فرمائی تھی۔ اس کے جواب میں لکھتے ہیں۔ "لاحول ولا قوۃ! کس ملعون نے بہ سبب ذوق شعر کے اشعار کی اصلاح منظور رکھی؟! اگر میں شعر سے بیزار نہ ہوں تو میرا خدا مجھ से بیزار۔ میں نے بطریق تبر درویش بر لب درویش لکھا تھا جیسے ابھی جو روزے خاوند کے ساتھ مرتا بھرتا اختیار کرتی ہے، میرا تمہارا وہ معاملہ ہے۔"

"سید عباس نے یہ وصیت نامہ پڑھ کر اپنے تربیت پانے کا حال بیان کرنا شروع کیا۔ وہ کہتا تھا کہ: آٹھ نو برس کی عمر میں میری والدہ نے مجھ کو مکتب میں نہیں بٹھایا بلکہ آپ ہی پڑھاتی لکھاتی رہیں۔ تین گھنٹے دو پہر سے پہلے اور دو گھنٹے دوپہر کے بعد، یہ پانچ گھنٹے تو میرے پڑھنے لکھنے کے تھے۔ اس کے سوا صبح سے لے کر رات کے دس بجے تک میرے تمام اوقات اور کاموں میں صرف ہوتے تھے۔ صبح کی نماز کے بعد ایک ایک آدمی کو ساتھ لے کر جنگل ہوا کھانے جاتا تھا اور سورج نکلتے ہی الٹا گھر آتا تھا۔ وہاں سے آتے ہی گرم پانی سے نہا کر اجلے کپڑے پہنتے اور جو کچھ ناشتہ تیار ہوتا وہ کھایا، اس میں اکثر ساتھ بیٹھ جاتے تھے۔ اب میرے پڑھنے کا وقت آیا۔ دس بجے تک مجھ کو اماں جان برابر پڑھاتی رہتی تھیں، اس کے بعد میں اور میری انا کا بیٹا نظام السلام جو میرے کوکا سے عمر میں ایک برس بڑا تھا، گیارہ بجے کے برابر اصطبل میں کھیلتے تھے۔ اس میں دو چار محلے کے لڑکے اور بھی ہمارے ساتھ کھیلنے کو آجاتے تھے۔ گیارہ بجے وہاں سے آکر کھانا کھایا، پھر بارہ بجے تک اشعار دیکھتا رہا، اس کے بعد ہمارے पड़ोस में एक خوش نویس रहते تھے، ان کے پاس جاکر نستعلیق کی مشق کرتا تھا۔ ایک بجے وہاں سے آتا تھا تو ظہر کی نماز پڑھ کر تین بجے تک پھر اماں جان پڑھاتی رہتی تھیں۔ تین بجتے ہی پڑھنے سے مجھے چھٹی ہو جاتی تھی۔ اب..."
